Regarding the
U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) - Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program - Local Formula (#27312)
WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) is authorized to extend financial assistance to municipalities in the form of grants; and
WHEREAS, this funding has been made possible through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program; and
WHEREAS, this funding will be utilized to purchase ballistic shields, upgraded body armor, and specialized breaching tools for the Bridgeport Police Department’s Emergency Services Unit (ESU); and
WHEREAS, it is desirable and in the public interest that the City of Bridgeport submit an application to
the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) - Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program - Local Formula to fund these important efforts.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL:
1. That it is cognizant of the City’s grant application to and contract with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) for the purpose of the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program - Local Formula.
2. That it hereby authorizes, directs, and empowers the Mayor or his designee to accept any funds that result from the City’s application to the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) - Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) Program - Local Formula and to provide such additional information and execute such other contracts, amendments, and documents as may be necessary to administer this program.
